The National Council of Voluntary Organisations will host its 28th annual fundraiser on Cayman 27 (Cable Channel 12) on Saturday at Hard Rock Café and simulcast on Radio Cayman from 7pm to midnight.
This is the largest fundraiser organised by NCVO each year and money raised helps to maintain and operate one of Cayman’s longest running charities.
Every year the NCVO draws out an amazing level of talent for the evening. The list of entertainers lined up for this year includes In Transit, Karen Edie, Barefoot Man, Sea N’ B’, Earl Lapierre’s Steel Pan Band, Suckerbox and Hi Tide, all of whom are donating their time and talent.
There will also be over 50 prizes donated by more than 40 companies given away to those who phone in and pledge on the night to 946-6136.
There is a grand prize of two round trip tickets to any Cayman Airways destination and numerous gift certificates from popular stores and restaurants around the Island.
‘The success of our radio/telethon is vital to the survival of the NCVO and its projects,’ explains Janice Wilson, CEO for NCVO. ‘The community has always been very generous in their donations to our programmes and we encourage as many people as possible to support the event, but to also come and join us for a wonderful night of fun and entertainment.’
The NCVO is an independent, non-profit, charitable organisation that engages in projects to meet the ever-increasing social needs of the community. As one of the oldest charities in Cayman, having been in operation for over 30 years, it has grown substantially. Among the projects run by the NCVO are: the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home, Miss Nadine’s Pre-School, Jack & Jill Nursery, the Caring Cousins Welfare Fund and several others. The demand for the NCVO’s programmes continues to increase and resulted in the employment of six additional staff members between the foster home, pre-school and nursery and in the creation of two extra pre-school classrooms earlier this year.
Organisation leaders hope more than CI$85,000 will be raised. Corporate donations are encouraged and the public is invited to present their donations at the telethon venue or to call in throughout the night to make a pledge.
