Purple Dragon produces elite warriors

The Purple Dragon Karate Club is Cayman’s leading martial arts school and 40 students gathered to fight and claim the esteemed title of Elite Warrior a few weeks ago.

The competition was the Elite Warrior Challenge.

It occurs twice a year and allows students to show that they are the best in their rank category through fighting, katas, break falls, and self defence.

Students get to challenge the current elite warriors for their status belt by out pointing them in a tag sparring match.

The challenger must win two out of three rounds by at least two points each round. If there is no current elite warrior in a division then the participants in that division will have an elimination fight until there are only two fighters.

During this last fight the victor would have to win two rounds by at least two points in order to gain the elite warrior status; simply winning is not enough. If the person only wins by one point then they don’t win the title.

They must demonstrate a skill level that is vastly superior to their opponent.

There are two ways to gain the elite warrior status; the first is through the grading examination where the head instructor of Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu System worldwide, Professor Don Jacob and the grading committee awards an elite warrior according to how they perform during their testing and the second way is via the elite warrior challenge.

The Elite Warrior Challenge was created to recognise those students that excel in their particular segment of martial arts and as a way to encourage students to strive for a higher level of perfection.

Winners of the competition were Lance Jefferson, Lleyton James, Corey Mellaneo, Shenelle Stewart, Jamaal Estwick and Chrystal Bush.

Purple Dragon Don Jitsu Ryu, was developed by Professor Jacob, one of the most well known and respected martial artists in the international arena. It is the most practical, deadly, and complete martial arts fighting system in the world today.

Modern in concept, yet ancient in origin, Don Jitsu Ryu blends well with many of the traditional martial arts styles such as kung fu, tae kwon do, judo, jiu-jitsu, aikido, weaponry and kick boxing.

This fighting principle has established Don Jitsu Ryu as one of the world’s best.

Purple Dragon Cayman Islands boasts a plethora of activities for all ages and genres including self defence, martial arts and private sessions.

The company offers a nourishing and safe environment for positive peer pressure and encourages health and fitness whilst instilling confidence and self respect. The school’s mantra is ‘born to win’.

The club is inviting the public to attend the upcoming grading competition (belt rank testing) at St. Ignatius Catholic School, on 17-18 November. For more information, contact the school at 946-1241 or [email protected] or visit their website at www.purpledragon.ky.
