It’s Cross Island Relay Time

Race Day is fast approaching-it’s less than a week away.

Not much time to coordinate your six-person teams.–so get cracking!

Registration for the 34th edition of this event takes place on Friday, 1 February, from 5-6 p.m. in the office of George Hicks High School.Entry fee is $75.00.

Entry forms must be signed by each team member and the order of running must be entered on the entry form.

Shirt size for each team member should be noted.Race organizers would be grateful for the receipt of this information as soon as possible.

Through the years, the Cross Island Relay has brought out the creme de la creme from the road running community.

But the event also attracts groups of co-workers and sextets of friends and acquaintances.

Originally begun in 1975 by high school physical education teacher Winston Skinner, some years ago the Hash House Harriers were asked to take over the organization of the activity,have continued the tradition.

and team records have endured the challenge of talented persons for more than twenty years.Only one high school teamever swept away all other opposition-the Cayman Brac boys entry in 1977.Theenjoyed an extended spell of victories, including the alltime fastest clocking of 2 hours, 14 minutes, 17 seconds in 1982.That same year the Middle School Girls posted a time of 2 hours, 33 minutes, 56 seconds, to finish fifth overall, and setting a mark for the ladies which has remained beyond reach until the present.

Single bestsegments were turned in back in 1984, when Time Byrne sped the distance in 20 minutes, 12 seconds, and the barefooted Herfa Ebanks churned out a 24 minute, 12 second outing.
