Christian Endeavour to mark 100 years

Christian Endeavour in the Cayman Islands will be celebrating its centennial this year.

‘Mrs. Sybil McLaughlin has graciously accepted chairmanship of the planning committee,’ reported CE spokesman Oswell Rankine. The programme will be announced as soon as it is finalised.

The handbook of the Cayman Islands for 1908 makes reference to Christian Endeavour groups in ‘Georgetown,’ Bodden Town and ‘the Lesser Islands’.

In 1968, groups from the various districts came together to form the Christian Endeavour Union. One of the first projects it became involved in was the construction of the Prospect Youth Centre. Hundreds of residents and visitors attended conferences and camps there.

This week, the annual celebration of Christian Endeavour International is taking place.

The opening service was held at Gun Bay United Church on Sunday. Members took part in visitations and prayer services in various districts on Tuesday.

A picnic is planned for this Saturday at Kaibo public beach from 2pm.

The week closes with a service at East End United Church on Sunday at 7pm.
