Digicel Chuggers have started the co ed softball league season impressively, much to the consternation of rivals
Deloitte Canadian Bacon.
At the Field of Dreams on Sunday morning, Bacon got roasted by a rampant Chuggers side. Bacon never sizzled. Bacon were the runners-up in the A League last year but newcomers Chuggers were not in the least intimidated, winning comfortably 14-3.
Alan Markoff, Chuggers player-coach, said: ‘We got them! They scored a run on the first inning because of some sloppy defense by us. We came back and scored four at the bottom of the first inning with some good hitting. And then we scored five on the second inning and really put it away. ‘The key hit on that inning was that Patrick Bourque had a grand slam which really put us up. Our defense played pretty well the whole game. Of course, Patrick made two errors in the fifth inning to give up a run but we kept on adding some runs.
‘Donnie House had three hits including a home run and a triple. Neil Clements was our pitcher today and kept them off balance the whole time. We really had the game in hand by the second inning and by the time the fifth inning came up we had them up by more than 10 runs. We gave them the option to play more but they had had more than enough of us by then. We came up from the B League and are now 3-1 which is better than was expected.’
