The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is currently considering who will be chosen to fill in for the senior commanders placed on leave last week by the Governor.

Not only are Commissioner Stuart Kernohan, Deputy Commissioner Rudi Dixon and Chief Superintendent John Jones on required leave; but the Caymanian Compass has learned Deputy Commissioner Anthony Ennis has also been out of office for at least the past two weeks.
A police spokesperson said Mr. Ennis has not been required to go on leave, as were the other three men. The department was uncertain at this point when he might return.
This has left the RCIPS without its top four commanders for the present.
Governor Stuart Jack named UK Metropolitan police veteran David George to serve as acting commissioner in Mr. Kernohan’s place. It is presumed that Mr. Ennis will take up his deputy commissioner’s role again in the relatively near future.
For the time being, all RCIPS superintendents including Marlon Bodden, Adrian Seales, Michael Needham and Kurt Walton will be assisting Mr. George in running the department in addition to maintaining their other duties.
‘A formal process of placing superintendents into acting posts will be followed over the coming weeks,’ said RCIPS spokesperson Deborah Denis.
It remains uncertain when or even if Messrs. Kernohan, Dixon and Jones might return to the RCIPS. The senior investigating officer from the UK looking into the matter has previously said all three men were not under investigation. Governor Stuart Jack has said the three were temporarily removed to ‘facilitate’ the on-going investigation.
That investigation was first believed to have centred on allegations that confidential police documents and information had been given to the media. Mr. Jack said the UK officers’ review found those claims were false.
Former MLA Lyndon Martin was arrested last week in connection to that investigation. However, he had not been charged as of press time and was said to be cooperating with police.
