Ten staff from the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) have received emergency equipment training covering basic self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) use.
The training included an overview of emergency safety equipment and documentation of daily safety checks. Participants donned the equipment and suited up in order to practice procedures for themselves.
‘This was a valuable exercise for our staff,’ said Lab Manager Antoinette Johnson. ‘It is imperative they become familiar and comfortable with the equipment, for we never know when it might really be needed.’
Training Officer for the Cayman Islands Fire Services (CIFS) Joseph Thompson facilitated the exercise which specifically focused on the Drager PA 90 Air Boss Evolution-Plus SCBA kits.
Part of the DEH HAZMAT Response kit, the type and model were selected by DEH for compatibility with the equipment used by the CIFS in order to accommodate this type of cross-training.
