Romantic reggae lovers rock legend Beres Hammond is set to delight fans tonight on Sparky Drive.
The concert – dubbed Return of the King – will also include international star Tinga Stewart, backed by Impulz Band.
Event promoter, Dwayne Seymour of Music Mogul Entertainment hopes the concert will help promote a positive message of unity.
‘Both Beres Hammond and Tinga Stewart are two great reggae lovers rock legends, and I hope through their music that they will help to bring Cayman together as a more loving nation.
‘Beres Hammond last performed in Cayman in 2001 and his return has been eagerly anticipated. Tinga Stewart has been in Cayman numerous times over the past few years.’
He added: ‘With two such great legends of lovers’ rock I am confident this concert is going to be a sell-out success and will be billed the reggae concert of the year.’
Local artistes, Jah Shawn, DJ Super C, Stuart Wilson and Love Culture Band will warm up the crowd before the big stars take to the stage. Winners of XPosure – a local American Idol format competition – Ms. Wassy and Jah Mikes will also perform on the night.
‘The local acts we have invited to participate are some of the best in Cayman. They are tried and tested and we know they will put on a good show.’
The Sparky Drive venue will be decked out for the event, highlights including an 80-foot long bar.
AI Rentals are providing sound and stage set-up, with a specialist from Miami being flown in for a state-of-the-art lighting system.
‘The venue is going to be phenomenal, with the best lighting display ever seen in Cayman,’ Mr. Seymour said.
Providing fuel for revellers, Ms. Petals restaurant will be serving up a selection of local fare.
BERES HAMMOND
Throughout his illustrious 30-year career singer/songwriter Beres Hammond has remained at the top of his game. The Grammy Award winning reggae star is known for his sultry voice and hypnotic lyrics.
Beres Hammond started his music career in the early 1970s, competing in local talent contests, before joining the band Zap Pow. He released his first solo album, Soul Reggae in 1976.
In 1985 he formed his own record label, Harmony Records and quickly established himself as one of the top lovers rock artistes.
His hits include Groovy Little Thing, What One Dance Can Do, Tempted to Touch, Putting Up Resistance, No Disturb Sign, They Gonna Talk, Rock Away, and many more.
His first album of the new millennium was Music Is Life, released in 2001, which featured an appearance by Wyclef Jean. The 2004 release Love Has No Boundaries, had guest spots by Buju Banton and Big Youth.
Hammond started 2008 on the same high as 2007. He was among the headlining acts at January’s Air Jamaica jazz & Blues Festival. In early February, Hammond was pronounced the Reggae Role Model of The Year at the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards in Jamaica. The honour is a testament to the musician’s success and his ability to mentor up-and-coming performers, including Nikki Turner, Ginja and Jah Cure.
TINGA STEWART
Tinga Stewart began his career in the late 1960s, teaming up with numerous bands, including Fab Five, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, and the Boris Gardner Happening Band, touring across the Caribbean and creating a name for himself.
Tinga Stewart, a.k.a. Neville Stewart, went solo in 1973, releasing his first hit Funny Feeling. The Jamaican artist followed the hit with Play De Music and his self-penned song Horray Festival, sung by his brother Roman Stewart.
In 1981 he was voted the most popular artist in Jamaica and enjoyed the international spotlight with Nuh Weh Nuh Betts Dan Yard.
Two albums followed, Key to Your Heart and I Feel the Music. The reggae star branched into dancehall, working with popular DJs such as Tiger Ninjaman, Nardo Ranks and Powerman.
In 1988 Take Time to Know Her was a worldwide hit, sealing Tinga’s success as an international star.
A slew of hits followed, including Inside My Heart, Whiter Shade of Pale and After All is Said and Done.
To date Tinga’s career boasts 10 albums and over 200 singles along with an impressive longevity and impeccable reputation of talent and professionalism.
His most recent album, Unforgettable was released in 2000.
