LA State Opening today

The State Opening of the 2008/09 Session of the Legislative Assembly will take place today, beginning at 9.35am.

After the traditional formalities, which included the inspection of the police guard, Governor Stuart Jack will deliver the Throne Speech. After the governor leaves, Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts will deliver the Budget Address.

Debate on the budget will then be postponed until Wednesday, 7 May, at 10am.

Although this meeting will primarily deal with the 2008/09 budget, other business scheduled for the agenda includes amendments to the Banks and Trust Companies Law (2007 Revision) and the Mutual Funds Law (2007 Revision).

The State Opening is open to the public, but guests are asked to be in their seats no later than 9:30am.

Fort Street between Mary Street and North Church Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8.5am until 10.30am to accommodate the opening proceedings.
