Gospel artists Shirley Caesar and Michael Combs are set to perform at the Lions Centre, Saturday, 31 May.
The concert, dubbed I Remember Mama, also includes DJ Nicholas and Heroes D Fe from Honduras.
In 2007 multiple Grammy winning gospel singer Shirley Caesar released her latest album, After 40 Years; Still Sweeping Through The City, dubbed one of the best traditional gospel albums of the year. The album marks the singer’s 40th anniversary as a solo recording artist, a career which she began in 1966 after a leap of faith.
Some of her more recent hits include I Know the Truth, Every Day is Like Mother’s Day and Jail Bird.
Caesar has earned numerous accolades including 11Grammys, 13 Stellar Awards, 18 Dove Awards, and an induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
As well as a highly successful gospel recording artist, Shirley Caesar also co-pastors with her husband at Mount Calvary World of Faith Church and is the author of The Lady, The Melody, and the Word, an inspirational book charting the singer’s success.
Singer/songwriter and born again Christian Michael Combs found God in 1989 and his uplifting gospel music reflects his personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
The singer and full-time minister has released over 10 albums. His most recent hit, Drinking From My Saucer is number one on Gospel 88.7FM. Other popular hits include Not For Sale, Stand By Mead n That’s My Jesus.
Whether singing, playing guitar, or piano, Michael faithfully shares God’s message in song.
Award-winning DJ Nicholas has worked on projects for Bless, Chevelle Franklyn, Robert & Jeneve Bailey and Danny Browne. In addition, he has ministered in Canada, the US and the UK and shared the stage with Papa San, CeCe Winans and opened for Kirk Franklin.
Tickets are $25 in advance, available from all Foster’s Food Fair locations, Eastern Avenue Texaco and Funky Tangs, $30 at the gate. Admission for children is $10. Showtime is 7pm.
