A group of 54 students and seven adults boarded a plane to Miami recently to attend the Key Club Florida District Convention.
The 61 people who attended this year officially made it the largest number to ever have attended from Grand Cayman, with students ranging in ages from 13 to 19 years old from John Gray High School, Cayman Prep and High School, Triple C High School and St. Ignatius High School.
During the convention the students (or Key Clubbers) attended many workshops, where they learned more about different types of service organisations and projects that could help the community.
The main reason for gathering at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel was to celebrate the conclusion of another successful Key Club Year and to elect a new government that will be taking the place of the retiring one.
So in the spirit of true elections the Key Clubbers attended caucuses where they heard speeches from different candidates for district governor, district secretary and district treasurer.
It was not all work and no play – on the first and the last night of the convention there were dances where the students made friends with other members of the Florida District and had a little fun.
The trip would not be possible without the financial help of the sponsors. So a big ‘Thank you’ to Campbells Attorneys, Kelly Holding, The Final Touch, Scott’s Equipment, Walkers Attorneys and the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman.
