The Department of Sports Inter-Primary Swim Championship delivered pure excitement, featuring a successful title defence in one division and a historic first-time champion in the other.
Now in its third consecutive year, the event saw public, private and homeschool students compete in various events at the Lion’s Aquatic Centre on 28 May. Within the championships, schools are categorised as either large or small based on student population.
In the Large Schools division, defending champions Cayman Prep and High School claimed the top spot on the podium for the second consecutive year.
They were followed by Cayman International School in second place, while Island Primary secured third.
Meanwhile, Montessori By The Sea achieved a major milestone, capturing the top spot in the Small Schools division for the first time.

Footsteps School captured second place, and First Baptist Christian School rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.
Chester Hurlston, head coach for the Department of Sports, praised the energy of the day, noting that it was “a good atmosphere”.
“Each year that we host the competition, we continue to see an increase in the number of athletes taking part. This shows us that swimming is becoming increasingly important, both from a competitive standpoint and in raising awareness of the sport,” Hurlston said.
“When it comes to the competition, schools are getting better each year. The schools coming out on top still have to be aware that the bottom schools are rising,” he added.
