Arrest in Canadian contractor’s killing

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder by detectives investigating the death of Martin Joseph Gareau.

The suspect was arrested Thursday afternoon, 5 June and is in police custody.

Mr. Gareau’s body was found at his home address in Sea Spray Drive (off Beach Bay Road) Bodden Town, soon after 7am on Tuesday, May 20. A post mortem revealed that the 47-year-old had suffered multiple injuries to his head and body caused by sharp and blunt objects.

The victim was discovered by two family members who went to the home when Mr. Gareau failed to show up for work. It’s believed Mr. Gareau was killed sometime between Sunday afternoon, 18 May and the following Tuesday morning.

The Canadian national had lived and worked in Cayman for about four years and had three children.

All persons calling crime stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.
