Miss Cayman leaves for Vietnam

Miss Cayman Rebecca Parchment arrived in Vietnam this week to embark on preparations for the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant.

After two days of travel, Rebecca landed in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Tuesday, 17 June, complete with a packed itinerary for her and the other 56 contestants.

The contestants will compete in the National Costume competition on 22 June; appear in Danang on June 25; and then on to the capital, Hanoi, for two days. They will then visit Halong before finally moving to the main pageant venue, Nha Trang, between 29 June and 15 July.

Miss Cayman Islands Committee Chairperson Jacqueline Terry extended best wishes to the Cayman Islands’ ambassador, saying: ‘We hope Rebecca does well; we are certainly very excited and proud to have her representing the Cayman Islands.’

This experience brings extensive international publicity opportunities for Rebecca and for the Cayman Islands as a whole. There will be a pre-show presentation on 8 July, and the Miss Universe Pageant will air Sunday evening, 13 July on NBC and Telemundo.

Also in attendance in Vietnam will be a Cayman delegation including Rebecca’s parents Patricia and Ronald Parchment, and Mrs. Dawn McLean-Sawney, in the dual role of Secretary, Miss Cayman Committee, and the Tourism Ministry’s representative.

Locally, the Miss Cayman Islands 2008 pageant is scheduled for Saturday, 23 August, and contestants are already being selected and groomed. For more information, contact the Tourism Ministry at 949-7900, or 244-2458.
