Rotaract Blue Cayman Islands will host an awards ceremony in July to honour caretakers, teachers and others in the medical community who have assisted individuals with special needs.
The ‘Open Arms’ award ceremony – a first for Rotaract Blue – will be held at 7pm Saturday, 12 July at the Marriot Grand Cayman Beach Resort.
The Open Arms Program was created to educate and build awareness in the community about disabilities and to help integrate those with disabilities into the community.
The Rotaract Blue Open Arms Program was founded on the belief that people with disabilities deserve the equal opportunity to learn, grow and be respected within their community, stated a Rotaract Blue press release.
‘Caring for a special needs individual requires both patience and a loving touch’, said Shakira Gourzong, a member of the committee. ‘Not everyone is set out for such a responsibility, but those who are should be commended and honoured for all that they do,’ she said.
Rotaract Blue is one of the newest Rotaract initiatives in the Caribbean. Rotaract Blue is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Central and under their guidance has become the second established Rotaract Club in the Cayman Islands.
In the release, the committee paid tribute to their major sponsor, GreenLight Reinsurance, Ltd., for their belief in the mission of the Open Arms program and its generous support of the effort and initiatives of its members to focus on making a difference in people’s lives while having an impact on the community.
