The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is appealing for witnesses to an assault that left a 76-year-old man hospitalised.
The victim was attacked as he arrived at his home address on Pedro Castle Road Thursday night. At press time he was said to be recovering at hospital.
The 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call from a relative of the victim around 11.50pm Thursday, reporting that a man had been assaulted and required medical attention. Police and medics responded and found that the man had suffered injuries to his head and body.
The victim told police he was arriving home and was getting out of his truck when a man attacked him; hitting and kicking him. The victim attempted to fend off the assailant with a flashlight and an umbrella. The man called to his wife, who was inside the home, and the attacker made off on foot.
The offender is described as around 6 feet tall, of slim build and had a fair complexion. His face was covered during the attack and he may have been carrying weapons of some sort, which were used to assault the victim.
Police carried out a search in the area but nothing was found.
Detectives investigating the incident would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something important.
‘Anyone who saw a man fitting this description could be a vital witness,’ said Detective Constable Cyril Gordon. ‘If you think you know who this person might be, please do get in touch.’
Anyone who thinks they can help should contact Detective Gordon at Bodden Town police station on 947-2220 or call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS).
