A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SISTER ISLANDS AND A TROPICAL STORM WATCH FOR GRAND CAYMAN.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida continues to issue advisories on Tropical Storm Fay, which at 10 a.m. was located near 20.5 N 78.6 W or about 95 miles northeast of the Sister Islands. Fay is moving west-northwest near 13 mph with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph.
The large area of cloudiness and thunderstorm associated with this system is expected to spread across the Cayman Islands by early afternoon. Our Islands can expect overcast skies with intermittent heavy showers and thundershowers leading to flooding of low lying areas. Residents in such areas should exercise caution.
Northerly winds of 10 to 15 knots are expected to persist today shifting to the south tonight and tomorrow. Higher gusts are expected during squally conditions in and around heavy showers. Wave heights of 5 to 7 feet are expected, especially near the Sister Islands and around heavy showers.
ALL MARINE INTERESTS SHOULD REMAIN IN SAFE HARBOUR UNTIL FURTHER ADVISED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
