The first in a series of weekly District Meetings being held by the Investment Bureau this month took place in West Bay on Wednesday.
After a presentation on the Bureau’s free business advising services and some vital considerations in the development of a small business, representatives from area businesses raised questions on topics such as the business licensing process, financing, and marketing.
‘A lot of people in Cayman are running their own small business, but they’re struggling because they don’t know how to operate the business properly,’ said one participant.
‘It’s good to find out that the Investment Bureau essentially volunteers their services, because small business owners wouldn’t be able to afford the help otherwise, and this will give them the confidence they need to run their business right.’
Executive Director of the Bureau Dax Basdeo explained that the district meetings are being held in consideration of entrepreneurs operating businesses in the districts, who otherwise can’t take time off to attend meetings in town.
‘We’re holding the meetings during midday at district civic centers so owners don’t have to fight traffic and can take their lunch hour to join us,’ he said.
‘This way they also don’t have to be away from their establishments for very long.’
All meetings run from 12.30 to 1.30pm and refreshments are provided. The schedule of upcoming district meetings is as follows:
Bodden Town: Wednesday, Sept. 10th, Bodden Town Civic Center
North Side: Wednesday, Sept. 17th, North Side Civic Center
East End: Wednesday, Sept. 24th, East End Civic Center
George Town: Thursday, Sept. 25th, CIIB Boardroom, Cayman Corporate Center
