Butterfield are champions of Elite Sports Club Summer Tournament again.
They retained their rophy against Fidelity at the Bodden Town football pitch last Wednesday.
Jubilant Butterfield captain Dwight ‘Big Dawgg’ Moxam said: ‘We enjoy the thrill of competition and the excitement of scoring the game-winning goal. That’s what makes this game so much fun. If you’re not having fun, then you’re playing the wrong sport.’
Frankie Brathwaite of Fidelity lobbed over the Butterfield’s keeper’s head from a counter attack, taking the lead, but Butterfield’s Jonathan Frazier put his team ahead too, heading home from Chester Ebanks’ corner kick.
Soon after Jonathan would score again as Brian Hydes threw the ball and Joel McCrae flicked it on for Frazier to put Butterfield ahead 2-1.
Fidelity applied pressure to a back pass from Butterfield general Owen Dinnall, but Jairo Sanchez scored to make it two apiece.
Minutes later Kemar Scott of Fidelity was awarded a penalty and Sanchez came forward and put his team ahead 3-2.
Minutes later Butterfield veteran Joel McCrae equalized from coach Pelo’s free kick to make it 3-3.
With six goals in the first half, this was a signal that both sides badly wanted to win.
The second half was slower as both sides ensured they didn’t make mistakes. So it had to be decided on penalaties.
Fidelity kicks were taken by Sanchez, Marco Tulio, Mitchie Williams and Scott who scored.
The fifth penalty taker for Fidelity was unable to, due to Butterfield being straight winners, not missing any of their five chances.
Owen Dinnall took the last penalty to clinch the title. Other successful kickers were Richard Brown, Joel McCrae, Jonathan Frazier and Paul Tugman.
Organiser Greg Ebanks said: ‘On behalf of Elite Sports Club we would like to thank the teams, match officials, media, and the sports office for making this possible, and last but not least thank God for being there for us.’
