Jose’s Gasolinas knew their best chance for a first win was going to be their last chance as well.
The Gasolinas, as they have all year, played a determined game and beat Maples Too Hot to Handle 19-7 to earn their initial victory in the league.
The whole Jose’s team as well as coach Jeff Wight deserves lauding as they continued to persevere each week despite the losing streak.
Christina McTaggart was steady at the helm for Jose’s completing 8 of 18 passes with two touchdown passes and one interception.
Jo Richard was again the main target for McTaggart as she had six receptions. Charlene Leblanc caught two passes but both were for touchdowns and Kristina Harper rushed for the other score.
Becky Coe and Gina Powell led the defense with four and three tackles respectively.
Maples finished off the year with a solid effort but it wasn’t a victorious one on this afternoon at the Dart Field, Camana Bay.
Loletta Hanna as she has all year led the way for Maples. She completed 9 of 16 passes with an interception and a touchdown pass.
Judy Rivers caught the scoring toss while Sophia Dilbert had four receptions. For the Maples defense Donya ‘Beautiful Feet’ Miller had four tackles while Margo Whittaker had three.
Maples will hopefully keep the nucleus of the team together as they have been close in all games.
Digital Design Storm showed all that last week’s close loss to Walkers does not sit well with them as they chopped up Burger King 34-0.
The Storm lost last week’s showdown on the last play of the game and will be looking to avenge that outcome come playoffs.
Drew Dhanraj and Bobeth O’Garro as they have the last few weeks shared QB duties for Digital Design.
Dhanraj completed 7 of 14 passes with four touchdown passes and one interception. O’Garro was 4 of 8 passing with one touchdown throw.
O’Garro also had an interception for the defense. Latoya Cover, Julie Ackerman, Kathy Miller, Kimberley Smith and Scimone Campbell all caught touchdown passes for the second placed Storm.
Campbell had three tackles on the defensive side of the ball foe Digital Design who play Hammerheads Lady Pirates next in one semi-final.
Burger King would have liked to have gone into the playoffs on a winning note but nothing went right for them as the Storm were one step ahead of them every time.
Ellen Downey had a rough day completing only three passes with an interception.
Joni Ebanks returned to the Buccaneers line up and had two receptions, three tackles and an interception in leading the way for Burger King.
Benecia Thompson also had three tackles for the defense. Burger King are going to have to come up with a better performance tomorrow as they meet Walkers Wonders in the other semi.
In the final ladies game, Hammerheads Lady Pirates had to really put in an effort to defeat the pesky DMS Hellkittens 14-12.
Hammerheads finished third in the standings and will have to produce with their best performance of the year to advance to the final.
They take on Digital Design in the first round of the playoffs.
Lisa Malice took most of the snaps at quarterback for the Lady Pirates completing 4 of 12 passes.
Ali Amos still wearing a cast also played a couple of series at the helm to help ready her for the playoffs.
Eleanor Berry was the star on Saturday for Hammerheads rushing for two touchdowns while recording three tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
Hong Nughen was steady again keeping constant pressure on the DMS quarterbacks recording a sack as well as coming up with four tackles to keep the QBs from running for gains.
For DMS who are sure to be in the mix next year, it was the end to a year that showed they have what it takes to be competitive with the top teams.
Lisa Juaneza and Stephanie Bernier shared quarterbacking duties on the day using their option offense to try and confuse the Hammerheads defense.
Juaneza finished the day 4 of 11 passing with two touchdown tosses and also had a reception as well. Bernier completed that pass to Juaneza as well as catching four passes one of them for a score.
Camille Solomon caught the other touchdown pass. Delicia Ebanks had four tackles for DMS’s defense while Tereska Williams chipped in with three.
The schedule for the ladies playoffs has Digital Design taking on Hammerheads at 2:30pm while Walkers and Burger King do battle immediately following the first game. All action is at Camana Bay.
