A group of Cayman-based runners are tackling the New York Marathon next week and have raised a lot of money for good causes in the process.
The New York Marathon Pub quiz was held at Fidel Murphy’s pub last Thursday night with 18 teams battling it out to test their knowledge in sport, music and current affairs.
It was organised by Janet Jarchow, Elisabeth Lees, Phillip McGhee, Richard Horton and Nicholas Dixey and they raised nearly $3,000.
Winners were Samson & McGrath and the four charities that will benefit from the proceeds are Generation NOW, Whizz Kids, an orphanage in Tanzania and Breast Cancer Gala.
Second placed were the Caymanian Compass team of Let’s Get Ready To Rumble.
Jarchow said: ‘We raised $2,788.54 for these good causes. This would not have been possible without our quiz master Vicki Wheaton, all participants and our raffle sponsors.
‘A big thank you also goes to our raffle sponsors who were: Jacques Scott, Alphasoft, Morritts Tortuga Club, Icoa, The Wharf Restaurant, Post Restaurant, Changes, Cayman Physio, Casanova’s and Hammerheads.
‘We’re very pleased with the result and the amount raised. We have all completed our last long run and are ready to tackle the streets of New York on November 1. Thanks again to everyone for their support for the pub quiz and throughout the months of training.’
