Scotiabank celebrating 40 years

The year was 1968 and time was longer than rope on these beloved isles.

The Bank of Nova Scotia opened its doors to the Cayman public in June of that year with a small group of employees on the water front, close to the seaport in George Town.

Prior to opening for business in George Town, bank employees from Jamaica would come to the island by boat and travel by bicycle to visit their customers and conduct their banking business.

Fast forward to 2008….. Scotiabank and Trust (Cayman) Ltd is proud to be celebrating its Ruby Jubilee – 40 years of serving the community in the Cayman Islands. The bank has become one of the major financial institutions in the local banking community and employs over 120 employees, states a press release.

Many passers-by could be wondering as to the significance of the multitude of flags seen hanging on the Scotia Centre exterior on Cardinall Avenue.

In this culturally diverse community, it was thought that everyone on the island would enjoy seeing the flags of the 50 various countries in which Scotiabank has a presence.

Residents and visitors alike are observed daily, pointing out ‘their’ country’s flag to companions.

‘Scotiabank has much to celebrate, it has a long and proud history of helping our customers in Cayman’ said Farried Sulliman, managing director of Scotiabank and Trust (Cayman) Ltd. ‘We are very pleased to share this celebration with all of our customers and invite them all to attend our grand finale celebration on Saturday, October 25th from 3 to 6pm at the Royal Watler Terminal. Numerous exciting prizes will be raffled and all ages will be entertained during this special celebration. Our staff and management are looking forward to sharing this special day and trust you will be making plans to join us for this event.’
