Hundreds of people turned out for the opening of a new Caymania Duty Free store in George Town on Thursday night.
Owner Harriet Lott was joined by her mother, Billie Lee Watson, and her sons Richard and Robert, to cut the ribbon at the glitzy new store at a Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours gathering.
It is the latest in a family owned chain of duty free shops. The first store was a small retail outlet at the airport opened 55 years ago.
Speaking after the opening, which included a red carpet runway walk by models wearing jewellery and accessories from the store, the company’s matriarch ‘Miss Billie’ said: ‘I’m very grateful. I hope we will get the continuing support that we have had all along.’
The 2,000 square foot store at Caymania House – formerly Bank of Butterfield House – in central George Town was packed with customers and browsers looking over the array of jewellery, perfumes, make up and local greeting cards.
Ms Lott told the crowd: ‘I would like to thank everyone for being here this evening, to enjoy the evening share with us the grand opening of Caymania Duty Free in our own building. We worked very hard to make this a possibility.’
