Ogier Stroke & Stride raises $4,500

As a result of the new charitable angle on the annual Stroke & Stride swim-run race series conducted each year by the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association, new corporate sponsor Ogier extended a challenge to all participants to raise money for two worthy organisations.

While the charity committee programme has been in place internally for a number of months, Ogier recently took it into the wider community in conjunction with the sponsorship of the 2008 Stroke and Stride. The event featured a new competitive component, the charity challenge, which encouraged participants to collect pledges for two of Ogier’s selected charities, Cayman Hospice Care and the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, with the grand prize of the series going not to the race winner, but to the person who collected the largest donation. Between the charity challenge and CITA’s commitment to donate 75 per cent of net proceeds, the event raised $4,500 for these charities.

The charity challenge was won by the racing employees of UBS, who raised money that was then matched by their company. After winning the grand prize of Cayman Airways vouchers, the employees elected to give the vouchers back to the event and they auctioned off at the race finale, adding more revenue to the charity pot.

‘The internal and external support and enthusiasm has been overwhelming, with people contributing both money and time in support of these organisations’, said Peter Cockhill, Ogier partner. ‘We offer special thanks to the staff and management of UBS who helped to make this such a significant contribution’.

Ogier intends to replicate this success with its other community sponsorship programmes with the goal of raising awareness and support for its various causes.
