One remanded for nightclub stabbings

Devon Jermaine Anglin was remanded in custody after appearing in Summary Court on Monday in connection with a stabbing incident at Pepper’s Night Club on Saturday, 8 November.

Anglin, 22, is charged with possession of a restricted weapon – a knife – at the club that night. He is further charged with wounding Ricky Manderson Jr. with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawfully wounding Ricky’s sister, April.

Anglin is also charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence, namely threatening violence.

Raziel Omar Jeffers, 25, appeared in the dock with Anglin. He was granted bail after Defence Attorney Lloyd Samson pointed out that Jeffers faced one charge of threatening violence.

Crown Counsel Nicola Moore did not object to bail for Jeffers. Chief Magistrate Margaret Ramsay-Hale set conditions that included a curfew from 7pm to 6am and surrender of passport.

Ms Moore set out the background to the allegations against the two men.

She said police received a report around 9.30pm of an incident at the West Bay Road night club.

The incident apparently started when Ricky attended the club. He saw Devon, whom he knew, and Devon appeared to fumble with something in his pocket. Ricky formed the view he was about to be attacked.

A scuffle ensued and Ricky was stabbed in the back. Devon was disarmed by April and in the course of the incident she was stabbed.

The knife was later recovered and secured by a security guard.

Meanwhile, Raziel intervened and threatened to kill Ricky and April, Ms Moore said.

As Ricky was leaving, Devon came down the stairs followed by Raziel. Devon held up what looked to be a gun. Witnesses thought it was a real gun, resembling a .38 revolver.

Devon pointed the gun at Ricky. There was an explosion and Ricky felt hot powder burning his face. He ducked and ran and was pursued by Raziel, while Devon ran in the opposite direction.

Devon’s attorney, Mr. Ben Tonner, said there would be no bail application that day. He asked for another mention in a week and the magistrate set Tuesday, 25 November, as the date for both defendants to return.
