Charles ‘The Killa’ Whittaker is about to cap off another triumphant year with a title shot next month.
Whittaker has won all three bouts by knock out this year and intends to continue in the same spectacular fashion in the Philippines on December 20.
He faces an opponent yet to be named for the vacant WBO junior-middleweight Asia-Pacific crown at the Pearl Centre in Digos, Davao del Sur where Killa despatched Jury Noda in two rounds a month ago.
Noda insisted he was going to win before the fight but Whittaker’s fist were the judge of poor Jury.
‘Since 2003 I’ve won a title every year and I want to continue that record by winning my next fight,’ Whittaker said while he was training at the boxing gym in George Town this week.
‘I hope this next bout will be victorious and it will be a platform for next year because I have a couple of big irons in the fire and hope a big fight comes off.’
Whittaker is 35 in January but remains unfazed about time running out for him. He is inspired by the likes of Bernard Hopkins who at 43 is still beating the best and Evander Holyfield who will challenge for the WBA heavyweight crown on the same day.
‘Time will only run out for me if I allow it to,’ Whittaker said. ‘I feel as strong as ever and I’m just looking forward to 2009. This year has been exceptional and I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing.’
