Master Batters are the newest champions in local co-ed softball.
The squad beat an upstart Citi Insomniacs 18-15 to claim the B League division title in the fall co-ed softball league.
The game was played Wednesday 26 November at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
Both teams had to work hard to get to the finals. In the semi-finals, Master Batters took down the winner of the quarterfinal match between the Motorworld Trojans and Maples Athletics. Both of those squads had 9-3 records.
Before that #3 seed Master Batters beat KPMG Bounty Hunters in the quarterfinals. KPMG were a surprise team as they were just an 11 seed and a record of 2-9.
Citi had a much more impressive and startling run to the finals.
Heading into the playoffs, the Insomniacs were just a #9 seed with an abysmal 4-8 record. Yet they would pull off huge upsets over high seeds.
In the semi-finals they beat #2 seed Walkers Warriors. Walkers had a record of 9-3 and had scored the most runs in the league with 200.
In the quarterfinals Citi would pull off the upset of the season. They beat #1 CITCO 10-8.
Going into the playoffs CITCO had the league’s best record at 9-2-1 and had given up the fewest runs with 110.
Before that upset Citi would win an offensive slugfest over #8 LOM Ligers 17-14.
The B League is the last of the co-ed leagues to wrap up. Last month saw frontrunners CML Hammerheads win the C League, beating Kroll Risky Business while top seed Home Gas won the A League, getting past KM Ltd.
