Arsene Wenger has hinted he will finally splash the cash during the January sales.
Wenger generally prefers to unearth young players with potential instead of buying ready-made first teamers.
But with Arsenal 10 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, the Frenchman knows he desperately needs to add some steel to his squad.
The Gunners boss said: “We are not close to signing anyone at the moment.
“But if we do buy, I think what we need is maybe someone with a bit of experience.
“We already have many young players so, if we buy, it will be somebody who is ready to play straight away.
“We are not looking for any player, we want someone who can add to the team.”
Andrei Arshavin has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates.
And while Wenger refuses to identify any potential targets, the Russian definitely fits the bill.
He added: “I don’t need to announce a name.
“When you do that there is 50 per cent less chance of making the signing.
“But I need a creative midfielder and eventually another midfielder because we are short.”
