Local and multi-national talents combine

The Fusion Concert Tour on 17 January at Lions Centre combines three extremely talented musicians all on the same stage.

Maxi Priest is a British reggae singer. He is known as The King of Lover’s Rock. His first major album, the self-titled Maxi Priest (1988), established him as one of the top British reggae singers. He is one of only two British reggae acts to have an American Billboard #1 and he reached the American Top 10 in 1991. His duet with Shaggy in 1996 – That Girl – was a worldwide hit.

Shaggy is a Jamaican-American reggae singer who takes his nickname from Scooby-Doo’s companion. His first big hit in 1993, Oh Carolina, was followed by Boombastic in 1995, then 2001 worldwide #1 hit singles It Wasn’t Me and Angel.

The album Hot Shot hit #1 on the Billboard 200.

Snow is an award-winning Canadian reggae singer. Snow stands for Super Notorious Outrageous Whiteboy. His 1993 album 12 Inches of Snow sold over eight million records worldwide with the single Informer remaining #1 on the Billboard charts for seven weeks.

Informer was recorded twice in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling reggae single in U.S. history.

‘The artists have been here in the past and have enjoyed performing in the Cayman Islands,’ explained Jesse George Sergios, promoter for the event. ‘Shaggy and Maxi Priest have collaborated in the past and Snow complements the genre of commercial reggae music.’

All the artists have some favourite hits that will be performed at the event, added Mr. Sergios.

‘They will all be performing their latest songs along with their past hits,’ he assured.

Tickets are on sale at all the Western Union outlets and Funky Tangs. General admission tickets are CI$35 in advance and $50 at the door. VIP tickets, which include food, drink and elevated stage front seating, are set at $150.

‘This is the biggest and best talent line-up that I have seen in my four years in Cayman and we are glad to be a part of it,’ Scott McLean of Plan B Marketing said.

Mr. McLean went on to thank the sponsors including Cayman Distributors, cayman Airways, Comfort Suites, Caymanian Compass and Vibe FM for making the event possible.

The promoter Issimo is also adding a separate stage at the venue that will feature DJ Adika and DJ Alexi playing old-school hip hop and house to complete the night’s music experience.

The doors open at 5:30pm on Saturday 17 January at the Lions Centre with local artist Mr. Notch hitting the stage at 6:00pm sharp.
