Police hospitality

On 28 January, 2009, I was heading a small group of vehicles.

We were trying to find our way to the Boatswain’s Bay Cemetery, where a friend’s funeral was taking place and got hopelessly lost. When I saw and flagged down a passing police vehicle, the officer started to give me directions for getting to our destination.

The police officer must have recognised my confusion about the local landmarks he cited as, after a moment, he told us to follow him and led us through many turnings to the funeral we might otherwise have missed.

I never caught the young officer’s name but his helpful kindness will remain in our memory and strengthen our appreciation of Caymanian hospitality.
