UK meetings held to advocate compliance

During his time in London for the constitutional talks, the Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts held meetings with Lord Myners, the UK Financial Services Secretary and Michael Foot, head of the independent review into British Offshore Financial Centres.

Accompanying the Leader of Government Business were the Minister for International Financial Services Policy Alden McLaughlin, the Attorney-General Sam Bulgin, and the Deputy Financial Secretary of Financial Services Deborah Drummond.

During the meeting with Lord Myners, perspectives were shared on various matters, including Cayman’s strong compliance record in the financial services arena and areas for mutual interest.

In the subsequent meeting with Mr. Foot, the Cayman Islands delegation received helpful insight into the approach and procedure to be adopted in the context of the review, including confirmation that the review will incorporate an on-site component, with the first visit to occur in the second week of March.

‘We were pleased to have secured these two important meetings while in London,’ Mr. Tibbetts said.

‘We were particularly struck by Lord Myners’ level of knowledge about Cayman’s compliance achievements and were delighted to establish with the new Financial Services Secretary a sound footing for a constructive relationship going forward.’
