The stars of local netball should be out tonight.
It’s the last pair of games in the first round of the Cayman Islands Netball Association senior women’s Knockout competition.
At 6:30pm Bodden Town Eclipzers B take on Rising Stars A while Rising Stars B battle Unity.
The squads have had mixed fortunes up to now. Eclipzers B came in last in division two of the open league as they failed to notch a win. Stars A were at the bottom of division one of the league as they did not have a win.
Meanwhile Stars B finished in the middle of division two and team Unity were below them in fifth in the same division.
Stars B, who have the best record of the bunch, arguably have the most momentum. Behind the play of Goal Assist Lexie Solomon, Centre Mariscka Blackman and Goal Keeper Kady Myers the squad made it to the finals of the division two playoffs.
There they lost in overtime to a strong Maples and Calder team 20-23.
On the other hand, tonight is redemption time for Stars A. With demotion to division two facing them the trio of Goal Defender Wendy Fisher, Wing Assist Tricia Skyers Palacio and GA Nordia Ricketts will have to step up.
The KO single-elimination competition began last Thursday and has been ongoing throughout the week.
The second round of the KO gets going this Saturday. That stage of the tournament will feature the six teams who won their first round games.
