I would like to support Mrs. Ruth Scott’s letter of 20th April, titled ‘Speak English’ and suggest taking it one additional step further to write English.
As one of the endangered species of Caymanians, I would like to know whether the Planning authorities or some other government body is monitoring the signage on buildings in the Cayman Islands.
While I know that we read American books and have American schools, there is no reason for the growing tide of American spellings on many places such as the Dart Visitors’ ‘Center’. If the excuse is that signs are printed in the USA, I do not believe that this is a good enough reason.
As a British Territory and a tourist destination, we should support the culture, which makes us unique instead of allowing the erosion of our heritage.
