The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry has relocated its Mediterranean office to the Principality of Monaco. The move of the CISR office, a division of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands, took effect on 1 May.
Expansion over the past two years has been significant to the CISR, explained Joel Walton, CEO of the CISR.
‘In order to strategically place ourselves for the convenience of our clients,’ he said. ‘We opened our first Mediterranean office in the port city of Cannes, on the French Riviera, and it was very well received. However, in order to expand our services, we decided to move it to Monaco, where we have a large client base, once accommodation there could be secured,’ he added.
A promotional launch provided an opportunity for the organisation to introduce its new Mediterranean technical representative, Eduard Henny, a consultant surveyor.
On hand for the occasion were key staff from the CISR’s Cayman headquarters and from its European regional office, located in Southampton, UK, including the CISR’s new Assistant Registrar of Shipping (UK), Tamara Bostock, who is now based in the Cayman Islands Government Representative Office in London.
The region’s top maritime industry professionals, yacht owners and brokers were invited to attend the 5 May lunch at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort, during which round-table discussions with Registry experts were held.
Monaco, with its wealth of financial services and international high net worth individuals, is a natural fit for the CISR, explained Mr. Walton.
‘It’s where we always intended to be, but it is very difficult to find accommodation in that small country, so we went a little further afield, locating in Cannes when we first had the opportunity.’
According to Mr. Henny, the launch was a very good opportunity to introduce the CISR and its services.
‘This launch and the promotional luncheon provided an opportunity to showcase the services of our new Mediterranean office and our global network,’ explained Mr. Henny.
