The company that owns the hotel previously known as the Courtyard Marriott is working toward re-opening the property in time for the peak season of 2010.
Dan Waters, on-island general manager for the owner, Thomas Enterprises, responded to a 27 April article in the Caymanian Compass headlined ‘Officials mum on Courtyard Marriott’.
‘Thomas Enterprises Inc., owner of the previous flagged Marriott Courtyard on West Bay Road, continues to work with the offices of the Minister of Tourism, Charles Clifford, Department of Tourism along with local construction, architectural and remediation experts in an effort to reopen the property,’ Mr. Water said.
The hotel received extensive damages caused by Hurricane Paloma last November, he said.
‘The remediation work is ongoing and the reinstatement process is scheduled to begin soon.’
Mr. Waters said the damage assessments are continuing between Thomas Enterprises and the insurance provider, Brit Cay.
‘Once a final determination is agreed to by the parties, the reconstruction will begin,’ Mr. Waters said. ‘Thomas Enterprises is very optimistic and diligently working to have the property back in operation to accommodate island guests for the peak season of 2010.’
Asked if the hotel will re-open under a different name, Mr. Waters said, ‘At this point I don’t know. But what I can say is that when it does open it will be a bigger and better property than it was before.’
