Cargo plane lands safe

A cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Owen Roberts International Airport this afternoon.

The mid-size Convair cargo plane, which was heading to Grand Cayman from Florida, landed safely after the plane’s crew reported possible problems with the craft’s landing gear.

A full emergency landing was declared and fire crews and ambulances stood by as the plane touched down just before 2.50pm. There were two crew members on board the plane.

Steve Webster, the deputy chief fire officer for the airport said he was happy with how fire crews performed.

‘We went into action and followed it in until it had made a safe stop,’ he said.

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority said it would release further details about the incident later Thursday afternoon.
