Former legislator and Speaker of the House Edna Moyle was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her contributions to politics in the Cayman Islands in the annual Queens Birthday honours list, announced Saturday.
In her 17-year political career, which ended earlier this year when she decided not to stand for re-election, Mrs. Moyle was known to work for the betterment of the Caymanian people, particularly women and children.
Also honoured was Michael Needham, who received the Colonial Police Medal for more than 40 year meritorious service in the UK and Cayman. The former head of Cayman Financial Crimes Unit retired from the service earlier this year and took a job in the private sector.
Governor Stuart Jack also named three Caymanians to receive the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour. Elsa Marie Cummings and Sharon Marie Martin were both honoured for their services to education, while Julian Nicholas Reddyhough was recognised for services to the community.
