Charles ‘The Killa’ Whittaker came through his warm-up fight in the Philippines unscathed although he had to take a big shot in the second round to get him going.
Whittaker knocked out Filipino Chris Salazar in the third round at the first professional bill to be held in Dipolo City on Friday.
‘It was a hard training camp for me because I was really out of shape,’ a relieved Whittaker said. He had not fought since December and felt the ring rust.
‘The whole event was great. We were greeted by local government officials and even stayed at the governor’s mansion. They really rolled out the red carpet for us and gave us the royal treatment. Not even Cayman treats me that well.’
Whittaker, 35, jumped on a plane soon after and is now in Florida trying to tie up his next bout. He wants to get in the ring again without such a long lapse.
