Bikes to invade Breakers

Motorsports continues to roar to life in Cayman.

In two weeks Breakers Speedway is set to host some of Cayman’s fastest bikes for a motorcycle race weekend.

The action gets going on Friday 21 August with a test and tune session at the track from 9pm-12am.

This period is expected to serve as a time to get familiar with the track and the retooled timing system.

On Saturday 22 August free-for-all grudge matches take place 6-9pm.

Grudge matches are random races between competitors that result from a challenge being given and accepted.

News of this pending race comes just a week after the Bikes, Camera, Action motorcycle show at Camana Bay.

A group of local bike riders are organizing the race with Breakers Speedway Owner Robert Campbell helping the group with the logistics.

As Campbell states motorcycle racing at Breakers has been a long time in the making.

‘The last time people raced there they liked it and it worked well. Since then a lot of people have been building and fine-tuning their bikes. Most of the bikers I’ve heard from are excited to get back to racing again.

‘They’re really appreciating what they have to work with. As the old saying goes you don’t miss the well until the water runs dry.’

With dexterity races having seemingly shifted to the track, much discussion has centered on whether Breakers is officially open or not.

Campbell offered to spell out the track’s use at present.

‘Many people have been talking about renting and I can publicly say that I can rent the track for an event. It will also be open for individual private use in the evenings and weekends.’

To go about renting the track, call Robert Campbell at 916-2222 or e-mail him at [email protected].
