More than 75 people attend career event
Over 75 job seekers turned out Tuesday night to the second in the current series of career fairs being held by the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, following a lousy turnout at the first.
‘Our human resources team was thrilled to welcome more than 75 people to The Ritz-Carlton Career Event on 11 August at the University College of the Cayman Islands, including many talented Caymanians who were learning about our career opportunities for the first time,’ said the hotel’s Public Relations Director Melissa Ladley.
The first career fair in this series took place on Tuesday, 4 August at the hotel, when only three people showed up.
Mrs Ladley said, ‘My colleague Kurt Christian summarized it best: the low turnout at our initial career fair event was actually a blessing in disguise. The ensuing news coverage initiated by the Caymanian Compass sparked lots of discussion about the types of opportunities The Ritz-Carlton can offer, particularly for young people who may not have considered the luxury hospitality industry before.
‘In addition to the great turnout on 11 August, we’ve had lots of calls from Caymanians who are going to come in to meet with our HR professionals or attend the next career event . . . The majority of the positions start in November, so there is ample opportunity for anyone who is interested to learn more.’
Mrs Ladley also expressed the hotel’s appreciation to Ms Jennifer Smith from the Department of Employment Relations, who also attended.
‘We are so appreciative of her support and our ongoing partnership with the Department of Employment Relations in trying to fill these positions.’
The various positions currently on offer include the areas of finance, rooms, food and beverage, culinary, operations and engineering.
Examples include: front desk agents, housekeeping, laundry washperson, bell person, kids’ activities co-ordinator, assistant director food and beverage, stewards, cooks, engineer.
The next Ritz-Carlton career fair takes place on 1 September at John A. Cumber Primary School in West Bay from 5 to 6.30pm.
