Six-a-side kicks off

Sunset Football Club is holding their popular annual six-a-side tournament tomorrow.

The competition is set to take place at the Camana Bay football field from 11am to roughly 5:30pm.

Each squad will consist of up to ten players. There will be three group games plus main and plate knockout competitions.

Sixteen men’s teams are slated to participate for a variety of trophies.

There will be no women’s competition for this year’s event.

All of the teams this year receive team shirts and random prizes.

Proceeds will go to the Sunset FC youth and senior teams plus a donation will be made to Cayman Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The inaugural men’s cup competition last year was won by Demolition Crew. They beat PricewaterhouseCoopers 2-0 in the final.

Demolition won the cash prize of $350 sponsored by Cayman Screen Print as well as the first Sunset Sixes trophy and individual medals.

PricewaterhouseCoopers played superbly to cause a few upsets on their way to the final.

The women’s cup competition was won by Dog House who received a cash prize of $150 also sponsored by Cayman Screen Print along with their trophy and medals.

Dog House’s Rosemary Geddes also won the player of the day award decided by the four referees.

Women’s cup runners up were Tinkerbell who agonisingly lost to DogHouse 2-1 in a penalty shoot out after a 0-0 draw in the final with Jovani Hessing the hero in the penalty shootout.

The men’s plate final featuring teams who came third and fourth in the initial group section was won by the Hurricanes coming out on top 1-0 against KPMG in a tightly contested affair.

The Kensington Kats won the women’s event.
