This weekend will mark the fifth anniversary of the most devastating hurricane to hit the Cayman Islands in recent history.
In the years that have passed since Hurricane Ivan, many books have documented its destruction but until now, none have fictionalised the events of those fateful days in September 2004.
Local author Chelsea Rivers has written a novel, titled Hurricane Ivan: The Experience, which she will launch tomorrow night with a book discussion and signing at Books & Books.
Hurricane Ivan: The Experience recounts the stories of four families who weathered the storm.
Chelsea Rivers was born in Texas and moved to the Cayman Islands as a very young child. Island living has influenced every facet of her life and she is settled in West Bay with her husband and three children.
Though Hurricane Ivan: The Experience is her first published novel, Ms Rivers plans to complete her other works and has ideas percolating to write a children’s series.
Ms Rivers works in the marketing department at Maples & Calder as a Business Development Executive in Research & Analysis. Friends, family and colleagues admire her natural talent for stringing words into sentences and encourage her in her writing.
Tortuga Rum Co. has sponsored a wine tasting for the free event, which takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 12 September at 7pm at Books & Books in Camana Bay.
