World Run is so much fun

The eleventh celebration of World Run Day is on Sunday with participants in Grand Cayman enjoying a 5k run/walk.

Run Day was founded in 1999, by Long Island, New York runner Bill McDermott, with about 100 persons taking part.

Last year, more than 2,000 persons world-wide were included. The Cayman Islands has commemorated the event each year.

Action starts at 5pm with the assembly point being opposite the South Terminal on Harbour Drive, following a route out South Church Street and back.

Organiser Jerry Harper said: ‘Everyone including pram passengers and four-footed friends on leashes, are encouraged to don a national costume or display
national symbols.’

United States representatives are further encouraged to designate their home states and Canadians, respective provinces.

Owners of German shepherds, Irish setters, Mexican chihauhuas, Alaskan huskies, and Russian wolfhounds, among others, are particularly invited to bring their pets along.

Awards will be presented to fastest finishers, and a number of random prizes will be distributed. A national costume prize will also be awarded. Refreshments will be provided at Breezes by the Bay, which is the site of awards presentations.

Entry fee is $15. Registration will be conducted from 4-4:45pm at the race start venue.
