Children’s Book Festival returns

Camana Bay and the Cayman Islands Cystic Fibrosis Trust have teamed up again to present the popular Children’s Book Festival.

The festival was introduced to Cayman last year and was a runaway success, so the two organisations decided to make it annual.

This year will feature headlining guest Robin Preiss Glasser, best known for her work illustrating the Fancy Nancy series of books, which are written by author Jane O’Connor.

Her sister Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman, author of the picture book series You Can’t Take a Balloon Into….

Local storytellers will also be in on the action, with Twyla Vargas, Rita Estevanovich and Nasaria Suckoo-Chollette taking part, the latter two as part of a Gimistory presentation.

On Saturday at Camana Bay, both visiting and local storytellers will entertain the kids from 11am in the morning. Crafts will also be available on the Paseo starting from 10am and lasting until 3pm. Crafts and activities include sidewalk chalking, balloon crafts, princess crown-making, drumming with Randy Chollette, a sing-along stage and colouring sheets.

The festival continues on Sunday, 29 November at the Dart Family Park where the annual Cystic Fibrosis Bedtime Story Fun Day will take place from 2pm to 5pm. Ms Preiss Weitzman and Ms Preiss Glasser will be back with more readings from their books, and there will be a host of prizes and hundreds of dollars of books to be won at the game stalls.

Face painting, a bouncy castle, puppet shows and a barbeque will keep the family entertained all afternoon.
