I read in a recent Compass that the Cayman Government will be employing people to collect litter and clear brush from the islands roadsides.
I applaud this constructive and practical initiative that will not only assist people who have fallen on hard times but will benefit the islands environment.
I would like however to request that this project be expanded to the cleaning of the islands shorelines as well.
Beaches and coves from East End to Barkers are in a terrible state, littered with plastics of all types. This tragedy not only affects the ecology of our reefs, but our legacy too; are we really that blind?
Garbage is being dumped into the Caribbean by irresponsible countries. Anything that floats, usually plastic, gets deposited on our shores by the trade winds, choking wildlife and disappointing visitors.
Why not employ people to patrol the beaches, week in week out, to collect this pollution and save this Island’s majesty.
