We witnessed through the various media the loss of lives and other devastation in the Philippines wrought by super-typhoons and record floods. The Filipino community here in Cayman has been deeply affected, more so for those with relatives and friends who suffered death or illnesses.
Amidst the devastation and tragedy of lost lives, we also witnessed here in Cayman various expressions of sympathy and compassion from churches, businesses, organisations and individuals, who have responded in meeting the needs of our affected countrymen.
We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the management and volunteers of the Cayman Islands branch of the British Red Cross for being at the forefront of the fundraising drive in support of the Philippine National Red Cross in the radio-thon on10th October. We also wish to thank the various business establishments that participated, Sunrise Rotary and members of the Legislative Assembly Moses Kirkconnell and Julianna O’Connor-Connolly.
We realise that the various unnamed individuals or groups have organised similar fundraising drives. To them, we express our sincere thanks on behalf of our countrymen, who have benefitted from their much-needed assistance.
