Injured bus driver stabile in Miami

A Cayman Islands bus driver who was critically injured in a collision with a bucket truck on 23 December is now listed in stable condition at a Miami hospital.

The accident that left 65-year-old Elbert Lester Rivers-Yates with serious head and facial injuries is still being investigated by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

Police said it appeared the top of the bus smacked the underside of the bucket extension on the construction vehicle just before 7am on the 23rd. The truck was in the entrance to Comfort Suites on West Bay Road but the boom and the bucket were extended over the road.

The bucket truck operator and a bus passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash.
