Arrest in hit-and-run

A 22-year-old man has been arrested for leaving the scene of an accident in connection with a hit-and-run wreck last week that injured two women.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said the man was arrested Saturday.

One of the women hurt in the wreck was airlifted to a Jamaica hospital where she remained in critical condition over the weekend.

The man driving the Mitsubishi Pajero during the Thursday evening accident was described as white, with a slim build wearing long hair in a ponytail.

Witnesses got a good look at the driver after they said he exited the vehicle immediately following the crash and appeared to carry one of the accident victims to the side of the road. The driver then sped off shortly after.

The hit-and-run occurred just after 7pm near the Centennial Towers complex along West Bay Road.

A 54-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries after she was struck..

A 20-year-old woman also suffered injuries to her face, ankles and arm from the crash. She was treated and later released at George Town Hospital.
