It’s Statistics Week

Residents
in the Cayman Islands will have an opportunity this week to learn more about
the economics and statistics that influence their lives.

The
Economics and Statistics Office is celebrating Statistics Week through Friday.

Statistics
Week was launched last year to foster greater understanding of how statistics
are produced and to promote their use.

The
theme for this year is 2010 Census, Everyone Counts in view of the upcoming
Census of Population and Housing of the Cayman Islands. The Census is
tentatively scheduled to start in October.

The
official launch of the Census is scheduled for March.

Key
activities during the week include presentations of The Census and You to over
300 students in Grades 9 – 12 in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac and to target
students of the University College of the Cayman Islands.

The
objective of these presentations is to sensitize students on the Census, the
process and how the data collected can be used for analytical purposes.
