School lunch money sought

The Lean on Me Committee is looking
for donations to help children in need who attend George Town Primary School.

The money raised will be spent on lunches
and uniforms for children whose parents have difficulty paying for those essential
items, said Derri Lee, chairperson of the committee.

“We’ll donate the money to the
school so they can make sure the children who need it the most can get it,” Ms
Lee said.

She is hoping to raise between $500
and $1,000 through an email and Facebook campaign and by distributing fliers
among the community.

“There seems to be an on-going
problem with some children at George Town Primary who need assistance. Other
organisations and individuals are also helping out,” she said.

She said a combination of single
parents in financial need and growing unemployment probably accounted for the
number of the children at the school needing help to pay for lunches and
uniforms.

Anyone who wishes to donate can
contact Ms Lee on 9267724 or Christopher Bryan on 9251675.

The Lean on Me Committee charity
group was founded by a group of young professionals in July 2006 to raise funds
for local singer, Nina Orrett who was diagnosed with a brain tumour. They have
since raised funds for a wide variety of charitable causes.
